![]() ![]() I have been ready to pull the trigger many times on ED, but I'm still just waiting for SC because of a few reasons: The aliens they have added are really really cool, it's just that I'm not sure that there is any point in interacting with them (yet). but the universe and gameplay itself I have seen described many times as 'a mile wide but an inch deep' - you do fetch or kill X things randomly generated missions to get bigger ships to do the same things. Fuck that.ĮD is an amazing presentation of a space sim, with gorgeous graphics and pitch perfect sounds. That was discovery's final nail in the coffin for me. WTF, how dare you treat me like trash? So, I went back to the forum to declare the issue (the third time) and I was told that I was an idiot. He was like 'okay but don't do it next time'. Then in new york, I was told off by a navy battleship to remove one of my ID's (thanks pirates, not only you get yourself killed by attacking me but also drag me back into being a 'fake' merc). Outcasts decided to cross my path and dug their graves. ![]() ![]() I thought why not try again, but this will be the final attempt. Same issue because I went crazy and mowed down about 20 corsair because they wanted to touch my precious niobium.Ĭomes 2020, at home, quit the bank job and was sitting relatively idle (just some IBM courses and job hunting). ![]() I came back to discovery after an entire year and got killed again. I was an engineering student back then and had little time besides classes, projects, samosas and drugs). All I got was snide comments about how poor I was since I had shitty equipment (well, such shitty grind, impossible to get anything without sitting 24x7. They killed me and I told them to fuck off just before I died. My freighter was intercepted by some police frenchies who asked me to give them 2.5 mil and surrender all my cargo. I was moving some goods from Tau-37 to Tau-23. As expected, I was a trader but actually ended up killing a lot of pirates (because they attacked me).Ĭarrying a trading license and killing a lot of pirates in self defense actually auto-generates a mercenary ID even though I was a trader and had only one license. But one of the biggest irritant is this ID-License system glitch. 1/10 would not recommend.Ībsolutely on point. Be prepared to read mountains of terrible fanfiction-tier writing both in game and on the forums. Trade routes are equalized to provide relatively similar amounts of credits per distance traveled making money making a rather drab and un-unique affair no matter who you play also anything other than trading is unviable as a main source of making money if you want to get anywhere. The community is filled with the strictest, most uptight, carebear players who will flock to the forums at the slightest small infraction, or conduct all their RP on forums leaving new or less invested players with mountains to read and no contextual understanding why certain factions cannot equip one item or use certain trade routes while remaining in-game. Although the content itself is rather great, unless you want to host a local/SP server (although the new French/Gallic content Disco adds, story and ship/weapon/faction wise, are awfully modeled, cringy as all hell, and flimsily written), the community online completely ruins any cool stuff the mod may bring. I hope things get better for the FL community but I don't see a lot of light. Also, check out S̶p̶a̶c̶e Stellar Wanderer on steam. Freelancer is dying and there's no denying that the space opera breed is on it's last legs (thanks to trash like Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous). What few hours I get in a day, I just drive around in BeamNG. I am barely able to play these days as I joined a big4 firm. Still in progress but you can download the demo. On another note, try a game called Underspace by Pastaspace. They only have like 6 missions out and work is in progress (they're also trying to recreate FL in unity engine). The moderation sucks and absolutely destroys an actually nice mod. In your experienced opinions, are there any working Freelancer mods still available for download that will give me an updated singleplayer experience with a decent(doesn't have to be good, even half decent is acceptable) sequel campaign?Įdit: Horizon was apparently a Discovery expansion.Ĭrossfire has solid replayablity but gets boring in Dom'Kavash space.ĭiscovery is garbage. Revisiting Moddb shows most of the smaller mods are dead, Shattered Worlds shut down and the only survivors may or may not be Crossfire, Discovery and a total conversion mod named The Underverse. Last time I went down this road, the main mods were Crossfire, Discovery and probably Shattered Worlds (wasn't there one called Horizon? I can't find it anymore, maybe I imagined it.) I was looking for a mod that did a good job updating the graphics and gameplay while preserving the single player campaign and adding 'good' user made content sequel campaign(s) story(ies). ![]()
